VEB to kick off quantum platform 2018, sees world race in 3–5 yrs
ANOSINO, Moscow Region, Dec 18 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Vnesheconombank (VEB) will launch a quantum platform in 2018, while a world race in the sphere of quantum technologies will start in three to five years, and the country should take part in the course, CEO Sergei Gorkov said on Monday at a conference.
“I believe we’ll be able to make this quantum platform next year, as well as a blockchain center, but there will be a completely different approach to manage quantum technologies, a flexible system, absolutely different from the one on blockchain. It has an academic component that cannot be commercialized immediately. We decided that it will be a quantum platform with three quantum consortiums, a standard solution,” Gorkov said.
“It’s important to do it in Russia, otherwise, we’ll find ourselves on a technological junk yard.”
According to a 2016 rating, a quantum computer will be invented in five years. “I assure you that it will be manufactured earlier. It’s evident that we’re on the verge of making a decision,” Gorkov said.
“I think that during three to five years the core fundamental things will be theoretically determined, and a quantum technologies race will follow: who will be the fastest to master the technology.”
